Acronis Appliance do not vmotion when going in Maintenance

Thread needs solution

Hello,

today we recognized that if you select on an ESX host to go into Maintenance Mode the Acronis Virtual Appliance do not even try to migrate to another host. So the Maintenance Mode Task does not finish unstill you Power off the VM or migrate it manually away. I think this is not very practical if you have automated patch times, for example at night, where you want the host to go into maintenance. I think i can remember that we have no problem with the prior vmware backup appliance. So is this a bug or is it wanted ? Is there a workaround ?

Sincerely Yours

Sven

Hi Sven,

When appliance is deployed by Acronis Backup, then the vMotion for it is disabled automatically on purpose, since migration of appliances is known to break backups. You can always re-enable the vMotion in vSphere cluster properties from vSphere client: right-click on cluster->Settings->DRS settings; from vSphere web client check cluster Configuration->"VM Overrides" list. Still you'll need to remember to move appliance back after host maintenance is complete.

Thank you.
