Failed to delete Backups

Thread needs solution

Hello everyone,

I have a problem with our Acronis 12.5. I want to delete a few weeks old backup but I get the error message, that there is not enough free space.

TOL: Failed to execute the command. Deleting recovery points

Es gibt zu wenig freien Speicherplatz.

Well, there is currently not enough space on the RDX drive for a next backup, but that's why I wanted to delete an older backup in the first place. The backup will roughly be 400GBs and I changed the backup plan to delete older files before the backup process (witch is a huge improvement over v12) but the make sure it will run smoothly I want to delete the older backup.

Acronis is installed on a Server 2012 R2 Std running Hyper V, where our DC is virtualized. The virtual DC has a iSCSI connection to a QNAP NAS where our main data is stored, so on this virtual machine is the Acronis Agent installed (which is also updated to the latest 12.5 release, via the dashboard).

Now I read that I shouldn't delete the backup via Windows Explorer because of wrong meta data left behind - but how do I delete an older backup, then?

Thanks in advance for any help

- Max

Hello, Max.

The problem is due to marked as deleted archives in tape archive. Since model of archive 12 format is one file then all backups appends to the end. We have restricted appennding data to archives if last backup marked as deleted.

Can you please describe your backup options? I want to understand how last backup became deleted because retention rules should not delete last backup. May be you deleted it manually?

I am sorry, Posted wrong thread...

Hi Alexander,

well, thank you for your post anyway.

In the mean time I tried to delete the latest incremental backup and it worked. So I deleted the rest of the incremental backups, still worked. Then I tried to delete the corresponding full backup (witch previously got me this error message) - and it also worked!

So I think my problem is resolved, but I'd like to know if this is the reason why I couldn't delte the Backup in the first place?

Thanks in advance!

Hello Max,

did you reboot the affected machine in the meanwhile? I've found similar tickets in our internal system, where the faulty state was caused by the Agent aborting an operation in the past due to lack of space in the temporary directory on the C: drive, and not updating the status later. Restart of Acronis Managed Machine Service has helped to resolve the issue.
