Local disk not appearing in "recover to" section of Universal Restore installation
Hello,
I'm attempting to restore an image of a HP Z640 to another HP Z640 workstation with similar hardware specs.
I created the WinPE (x64) ISO using the Acronis Bootable Media Builder and added the necessary drivers. I added the ISO file that was created to a 16 GB USB stick via Rufus configured for a GPT partition scheme and formatted as FAT32.
I am able to boot into WinPE and locate the .tib backup on the external hard drive disk. But I'm not able to recover that backup to the local E:/ drive of the machine I'm trying to reimage. It just doesn't appear as an option.
Any ideas on what I may be doing wrong or how I can fix this issue?
I'm running the latest Acronis Backup software, 12.5.7970.

Hi Eric,
Looks like you're recovering volumes instead of disks and the target machine already has a single volume in place, while original (backed up) system had 3 different volumes. In order to overwrite the target disk you need to restore the disks rather than volumes (or alternative is to create volumes beforehand - this functionality is accessible from Navigation->Disk Management). See screen shot below:
Thank you.

Hi Vasily,
I selected disk rather than volume. The target disk still isn't appearing as an option to recover to. I can't seem to locate the target disk in disk management console either. It's a 1TB hard drive.
I this same exact thing a couple weeks on a laptop and it worked fine. I'm not sure why I'm having problems now.

Hi Eric,
Thank you for the clarification. I was assuming that 3TB is the actual target for recovery, but there is another 1TB which cannot be detected for some reasons. Typically this happens if the disk controller drivers were not properly injected into WinPE media, or this disk controller has some additional specifics. Does this 1TB disk appear in Backup wizard as available source for backup (e.g. is it detected at all or is it a common HW recognition problem)?
Also have you tried performing recovery via standard (Linux-based) bootable media? If the disk is not detected from standard media as well (and you're sure that the drivers injected into WinPE environment are correct), then it makes sense to continue the investigation with help from our support team.
Thank you.

Hi Vasily,
I will try performing the recovery using the linux based bootable media. I will also try double check that they are the correct drivers and injecting those into the image ISO.
As for you question, it appears that the 1TB SATA drive is appearing as E:/ in the backup wizard: https://imgur.com/aNUfdhK
Thanks a lot for your assistance!

So I injected more driver's and now the disk appears, but unfortunately I ran into other problems.
I ran into this...
"Active Restore cannot be used in UEFI systems": https://imgur.com/a/TuzXQ
And this...
The 2nd error says I am running a trial version, when I have a paid license of Acronis 12.5, which I purchased last month: https://imgur.com/a/mV6pI
I'm not sure why it thinks I'm using the trial version of the software.

Hi Eric,
The Active Restore warning can be safely ignored - this feature is not required to get the system restored, so you can just click Ok on the recovery sheet. This feature is used in specific cases and allows to restore only OS boot data first in order to get the system boot up as fast as possible, while the remaining data is restored on background through special Acronis Active Restore file system driver. In other words it's a recovery speed enhancement feature, but it's not obligatory and can be skipped.
The 2nd error is related to Acronis Disk Director Lite functionality when it's running in WinPE environment - I've found that in some cases (depending on how the WinPE was created) there is no Disk Management section at all in GUI since it was intentionally removed from WinPE media, while in your case it seems to be something else - looks like a bug which needs to be investigated with help from our support team. In your support request please remember to clarify how exactly you created the WinPE media, e.g. which Windows and ADK version was used and which license was provided while building the media (from Acronis Media Builder GUI). In either case this problem should not be a blocker for recovery.
Thank you.
