Windows Server Restore Issue with Back up 12

Thread needs solution

Hi Guys,

I am checking out the P2V functionality of Backup 12 and I am having difficulties restoring the machine to a VM.  My Server is an Old Winserver 2008 with AD and Exchange 2007 on it.  I am currently trying to migrate that to VMWare 6.0.  I encounter a BSD, after the restoration and when booting up the machine for the fist time.  Kindly see attached picture for the error.  Kindly advise what can I do to avoid this error and how to fix it.

Thanks.

Hi,

Migrating a domain controller might be tricky in some cases and the root cause for the BSOD is typically AD services running inside the machine which "doesn't like" the new environment (it could be time mismatch or excessive space taken by AD services log files). You can check the following thread describing possible solutions: https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/1345241-2012-r2-dc-crash-and-won-t-boot-with-error-0xc00002e2

If you want to migrate a DC via Acronis Backup then the most safe and fail-proof way would be to capture the backup while the source system is offline, e.g. boot it from Acronis Backup bootable media and then capture the backup; after that run recovery in similar way: create an empty VM on vSphere with empty disks of required sizes, boot it from Acronis Backup bootable media (.iso) and run recovery from there.

If you still run into issues during the process, then please contact our support team for assistance.

Thank you.

Hi Vasily,

Saw the post and it seems I need to repair ntds.dit file of the ad for it to work.  Thanks for the update.  Consider this closed.
