ABR Advanced 11 SBS Edition and SONY AIT Tape [solved]

Thread needs solution

Hi

i'm testing the trial version of Acronis B&R advanced SBS edition 11 on a computer with a SATA Internal tape drive (Sony AIT2 turbo ; SDX570V). The drive is ok in devices manager.
Acronis B&R see the drive but don't see tape inside the drive. I tested several tapes (TAIT2-80N) with no result. Inventories failed everytime. I don't understand what is the problem.

Thanks a lot

Hello Philippe,

Welcome to our Forum, we're glad to greet you here. Thank you for opening the thread regarding this question, I would like to address it.

I regret to inform you that Acronis Backup and Recovery software doesn't support USB tape drives. You can find the details in this KB article.

Implementation of USB tape devices support is under investigation, and we're working on it. We would appreciate if you could provide us with the following information:

1. Device manager screenshots showing the tape device;
2. Tapes.txt file

  • Download the archive http://download.acronis.com/support/tapes.zip
  • Unpack the archive to C:\
  • Start the command prompt (Start -> Run -> cmd)
  • Run the following command:
         c:\tapes.exe > c:\tapes.txt
  • Provide C:\tapes.txt to us.

3. Get Acronis System Report

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you.

Thank you.

Hi!

The drive Sony AIT2 turbo (SDX570V) is not an USB tape drive - iit's a SATA drive with SATA connectors (like SATA hdd's).

But anyway: http://kb.acronis.com/content/21575 states:
"Recognition of IDE, SATA, or FireWire connected devices is not guaranteed."

In this case it seems that the Sony drive is not recognized and you cannot use it with ABR11.

Hi guys !
Thanks for your replys

Yes, it's a SATA drive, not USB. Before posting this topic, i saw the sentence "Recognition of IDE, SATA, or FireWire connected devices is not guaranteed"...but the drive is seen by ABR11 so i thought it was possible tu use it.

Hi

I solved the problem !

The SATA internal tape drive is connected to a 2405 RAID/SAS/SATA Adaptec controller. I replaced the default driver of the Adaptec card installed by SBS 2011 by the latest driver from adaptec website and now ABR11 see the tape !

Good to hear!

Yes, it's always better to use the original driver from the manufacturer, the gerenic drivers have mostly not all the functionality the device can afford.
