Acronis B&R 10 and simple network backup and restores. Is this replacing Echo Workstation?

Thread needs solution

We currently use the latest Echo Workstation version with around 55 computers in our network through the company license of our Acronis. Until now we simply booted off the Echo CD, type in the UNC path (\\server\path\image.tib) and either backup or restore what we needed. We do not use any agents, server side components or the management console. In an environment our size we find this is much faster when rolling out new machines or just for backup on a particular PC. Our techs do not have access to the server side of things.

We plan on doubling in size by the end of the year. My concern is if our current product we use from Acronis is getting phased out and we will be forced to move to B&R Advanced Workstation?

I installed and sampled the latest B&R 10 and it seems this version now relies on a server/client/agent setup where I need to have server side software installed to really use it correctly.

We may not want to do that as this requires someone to initiate jobs on the server side after the agent is running on the target.

I see some of the benefits of moving to the full blown suite of B&R in a business environment, but we still like the simple cd boot and image to UNC path for time savings.

Whats the biggest benefit of the server / agent scenario besides central management? Our goal is speed on getting the end user back up and running as soon as possible.

Thanks guys!

Hello Nicholas,

Thank you for using [[http://www.acronis.com/enterprise/ | Acronis Corporate Products]]

As far as I understood you, you are using Acronis Bootable Rescue Media for Acronis True Image Echo Workstation, i.e. you are using the program locally. Acronis True Image Echo Workstation can also provide you with the remote or centralized management, it contains Acronis True Image Management console, Group Server, Backup Server, etc. Acronis Backup & Recovery is the next generation of the Acronis True Image disaster recovery product.

If you want to continue to realize the backup strategy using Acronis Bootable Rescue Media, you need Acronis Backup & Recovery 10.0 Workstation (not Acronis Backup & Recovery Advanced Workstation). This version doesn't offer advanced tools and features like centralized management or remote management, and it is cheaper than the advanced version.

Our goal is speed on getting the end user back up and running as soon as possible.

I think that the fastest way to realize the backup strategy is to install the program under Windows and to schedule the backup operations. In this case the backup will be performed automatically (it doesn't require any human interference) in accordance with the selected settings.

Acronis Backup & Recovery Advanced Workstation makes the management easier. Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Advanced Workstation simplifies and automates backup and restore processes, while giving an administrator the ability to remotely monitor and manage geographically distributed machines from a single console. Policy-based management allows organizations to rapidly scale their backup and recovery plans to cover a few or thousands of workstations. Flexible scheduling and event-based triggering of backups allows you to automate backups and prevent loss of data.

Storage Node available for the advanced versions of Acronis Backup & Recovery provides with the cost-saving benefits of data deduplication.

Thank you.
