Acronis B&R Advanced Workstation Build 17437, Install Issues/mms broken

Thread needs solution

I was excited today when I found that Acronis had finally released an update addressing many of the issues that existed in the prior build of version 11.

As usual I copied the installer file, after downloading it, to the management server and performed an update.

All went smoothly, but after the install said it had finished successfully and I performed a reboot of the server, I can no longer open the management console. It continually tells me mms is not running when it clearly is.

I have tried repairing the install, and again rebooting but I continually have the same issue.

Normally I would call support but apparently my subscription expired without a warning email of any kind. I placed a ticket about this and they said the following:

I found similar post about this in prior versions which had the clients perform the same procedure I did above.

If it's of any further help I am running the server on Windows Server 2003 R2.

Also I decided to perform the upgrade on my own PC which is windows 7 x64. The upgrade was successful and everything seems to work fine after a reboot. However, one thing that caught my eye was that after the normal UAC popup I receive another popup in addition asking for elevated permissions to my machine, why was this added, it seems kind of sketchy consider I'm already allowing the program to run as an administrator?

Hello Shaun,

Thank you very much for your post. We are very sorry to hear about this problem. We forwarded your support update to our Sales team, I would really appreciate if you could contact me directly if you run into any issues with this. I also had to edit your post because it included some internal communications which cannot be posted according to our Forum TOU.

Back to the issue, it could be caused by one of the following:

1. Acronis Managed Machine Service (MMS) crash.

2. Delay with starting the MMS, please allow it to initialize for 20 minutes, this will help us localize the issue and allow the service to start for the first time after an update.

3. We will need to check the user under which the Managed Machine Service is running. Could you please get back to me with the AcronisInfo report?

To answer your question about the popup for elevated permissions, it is possible the user does not have enough privileges. I would really appreciate if you could take a look on page 19 of the installation guide for additional information.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.
