Backup to and Restore From 4k Sector Drives

Thread needs solution

I am using Backup & Recovery 10 Update 5 and just realized that the new external drives purchased for use as the backup Vaults are formatted with 4K sectors. There seems to be no problem with the backups as they succeed without warnings and data is visible within the operating system (SBS2011). The server drives are 512B sectors. The backups are file archives

I have two questions. One, will external drives with 4k sectors work with PE-based bootable media and the Acronis Plug-in for WinPE. Two, since the backups are working using the external drives as destinations, is it not reasonable to expect that we should be able to restore from them if need be?

I'd recommend to test it at your own - create a bootable media (if you didn't yet) and check that you can browse archive's contents from the media. If you can, recovery will most likely be possible too. If backups are file archives, however, there is no need to perform recovery from bootable media - if file backups are made from live system, recovery may be done from live system too. It's not the case for bare-metal recovery, but file archives can't be used for bare-metal recovery.
The answer to the second quesion is 'yes' as backup and restore use the vault location the same way - however if you backup from the live system and are going to restore from media there may be differences in used drivers - and it may be important difference.

Thanks. Especially for the information about file archives not being able to be used for bare-metal recovery. It makes sense when you think about it.
