Backup of network shares fail.
Hi.
I just downloaded a trial of Backup and Recovery Advanced Server that is running on top of a Windows Server 2008 R2 Datacenter.
I have several machines on a network running Windows 7 Ultimate and each of them have a few shares.
My goal is to get the server to backup only certain files and folders on each of these machines on a daily schedule.
I have created several tasks within BR for this and BR can access these machines fine with username and password for the shares.
The problem is that when the actual tasks start, it quickly fails with messages that the files are already in use and cannot be backed up.
I have of course made sure that none of the files that are to be backed up is not actually in use.
I have also tried giving write access to all of the shares believing that maybe BR needed it but that doesn't change anything.
I have absolutely no idea on how to get it working properly, so I would very much like som suggestions.
The file attachmen system doesn't seem to be working at the moment, so I have uploaded the error log to another location.
The error log can be found here: http://pastebin.com/G7aZYFHr

Regarding the Workstation license.. Do you suggest that I install BR Workstation on all of the clients running Windows 7 and then unstalling BR Advanced Server from my Win2k8 R2 server and then set up tasks on each of the workstations so that it backs up onto the server?

perhaps I didn't understand your problem. Are you creating workstations backup on the server or into a NAS?
You don't need to backup the server also?

No, there is no content on the server itself that need backup.
The server, currently running BR Advanced Server, will log on to several network machines running Windows 7 to make a backup of files and folders on those machines, but fails with the message in the log file.

So the destination of the backups is a shared folder on the server right?
the best practice to accomplish this operation is to remove BR adv server in the server and use one instance of BR Workstation on every workstation. In this way you can solve this type of problem.
If you need more information ask to me.

Hello Martin and Emanuele!
Thank you for opening the thread, Martin, and many thanks to Emanuele for reasonable comments!
I'm afraid here some misunderstanding occurred and I will be glad to shed some light to the situation.
Dear Martin, first of all please mention that in order to backup the shared folders you need to have them mapped in Windows, but this scenario works only in case
- you are dealing with the shared folder on NAS, etc
- you are performing files and folders backup
Please to note that according to the Acronis License Policy you will need one license for one computer your are going to backup or restore. So in case you are going to backup files and folders on some particular machine, Emanuele is correct - you need to install Acronis Backup and Recovery Advanced Workstation on every computer, and set the task to backup certain files you need to be protected.
I would appreciate if you could kindly test this solution, and let us know the results.
Please keep in mind that the trial version has the following limitations:
- 15 days of work
- only 5 machines can be imaged remotely
- Trial Acronis Bootable Rescue Media can restore only
Also note that you still can manage the entire process from your server machine. Just install there the Management Console with License Server and proceed with the installation of the Agents onto the target computers (feel free to find more details in the User's Guide).
Should the issue persist, we will need to take a closer look at the issue. I would appreciate if you could kindly send us the following:
- Acronis Info from the machine in question
- Procmon output
Please contact us with the info attached - it will help us to identify the exact cause of the issue and provide you with the solution.
Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!
Thank you!

The problem seem to be solved, but the solutions seems a bit.. off?
The solution is to map each of the network share as a psysical drive for the clients on the Windows Server 2008 R2 machine.
Doing this and choosing the new mapped drive as the source of the files and folders for backup will fail with this message: "The end of the file has been reached"
But when the network shares has been mapped I can choose to backup the network drive itself (not the mapped drive) and then it will backup fine without any problems.
Seems a bit weird to me that I have to map some network drives but not actually use them?
Is this normal?

Dear Martin!
Thank you for your comment and letting us know that the issue got resolved finally. I'm really glad to hear it.
Actually, this workaround is weird a bit - everything should work fine with the mapped drives. I have searched our resources and tools, but unfortunately couldn't find any information related to this problem.
I'd like to review this case for clarifying the situation and would appreciate of you could kindly send me the following folder
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Acronis
with Acronis Info from the machine.
It contains all the needed logs and may shed some light to the situation.
I will totally understand if you decide not to bother with gathering the information since everything is working. Anyway, should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!
Thank you once again!

Dear Martin!
Thank you for your kind cooperation, we really appreciate that!
I have just sent you a reply via PM with the info you have requested, and just would like to update community:
I sincerely apologise for I didn't specify it from the start, but the logs location differs depending on the OS you are running.
In Server 2008, Windows Vista and Windows 7 it will be
C:\Program Data\Acronis
or
C:\Users\All Users\Application data\Acronis
in previous versions of Windows OS - C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Acronis
I'm sorry for any possible confusion caused. Should there be anything else you would like to specify - feel free to leave a comment here, we will definitely help you!
Thank you!
