Backups are not deleted older than (x) days

Thread needs solution

Hi all,
I'm doing full backups of virtual machines and the system of retention of backups does not work.
I have changed the days of retention and does not work, the backups are not deleted and the hard drive fills up.
But if I run manually erase operation, if it works.
Is there any solution?

Thank you.

Hello Tomas,

Thank you for testing Acronis software.

Please be aware of the retention rules that works like this (in simple words):

The retention rule can only delete an old backup within an archive, when you have at least one full backup.

That means, if you are running a customized schema, for e.g. this:

Sunday: full backup, rest of week only incremental.

Then the full backup and the six incrementals are one backup cycle. The retention rule here can only begin to delete, when the next full backup exist. In this case the second Sunday. So, if you define, to hold the backup for 14 days, this means:

The first cycle will remain on your disk until the last incremental before the next full backup will be deleted on day 14, and this also means, that the second cycle also is stored and not deleted.

In this case the best way is to set the retention rule to delete after one day, as this means, your old cycle will be deleted straight after the next full backup.
