best practices for acronis centralized management and NAT traversal.

Thread needs solution

Hello.

I have a special need and wonder how others have solved this problem with acronis advanced backup and restore 10.

my network uses NAT a bit heavily. most (95%) of the agents that are going to be taken backup of. are Behind NAT routers. The consequence for me is that while i can portforward 1 machine and successfully take backup of that one machine. multiple machines on that network is harder to backup.
becouse i can not instruct management server to connect to the agent on a customized port. (not supported in acronis afaik)

I can not have multiple public ip's since that's the whole purpose of the NAT in the first place.
I can not deploy ipv6 at the current time, and gain end to end connectivity that way.
I do not wish to run vpn's between all boxes becouse of the added requirements.

How do you people deal with revers NAT traversal with acronis ?

Hello RonnyA and Jim!

Thank you for your comments and for opening the thread regarding this question.

Acronis Backup and Recovery is using port 9876 both for backup operations and remote connection. All you need to do it to make sure it is opened and accessible.

Should there be issues with using this particular port, you can change these settings with the help of .adm template. I would advise you to take a look at the chapter 2.13.8.3. Configuring communication settings, p. 86 and p.343 in the User's Guide for more details.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you!

I know this. the problem in the nat scenario are that when multiple machines are hidden behind a nat router, port 9876 can only be forwarded to ONE of the hidden machines. this is a problem when trying to backup multiple machines.

As far as i can gather chaning the template would change the port for all of the services and hence not help at all. You would move the problem of "only beeing able to portforward a port to single hidden machine" to a different port.

I get the feeling the answer is that Acronis does not support any kind of reverse nat traversal ? is this correct ?

i think the best solution for acronis programmers is to add the option to create a reverse connection in the acronis agent when loaded, like a payload!!!!
