Central Depots on NAS Storage not working ABR10 Advanced looses credentials constantly
Alright this is my setup
Windows 2003 Server with Acronis Backup & Recovery Advanced Server 10
2 NAS Iomeg StorCenter and LG N2B1
Both NAS system allow integration into Active Directory. Note: Acronis Groups can't be added to NAS security settings due to special characters.
Dedicated Backup User with Administrator right on server present. This user also has full Read/Write access to both NAS (just like all Users in Administrator group)
Win2k Server can access NAS drives without problems. Read/Write is possible without bugging for credentials.
2 Central Depots on the NAS systems have been created. During creation the credentials of the dedicated Backup account were used. Creation of depots succeeded.
However now several hours later when the backup jobs need to run, the credentials are apparently invalid. Reentering them fails, Acronis asks over and over again to specify correct user and password until Account gets LOCKED OUT!!!!!! (100% no typo in password!)
Management Server console reports error accessing the central depots as well as the Machine were backup needs to be started (mocks on wrong credentials). Even using different account with appropriate rights on both NAS fails.
And as the result, I'm unable to perform any backup!

Actually the problem is Acronis is unable to work correctly with UNC or DNS names.
After deleting all Depots I recreated them with the IP address and now it seems to work. (Which is just GREAT when IP addresses may change over time!!!! //irony)
quite disappointing that a 900€ software is unable to process such a simple thing!
And I find more and more things that are not working as supposed.
I'm now working over a week on deploying Backup & Restore here in the company and all I do is creating workarounds for stupid disabilities of this piece of crap software.

Believe it or not, the issue came back just now.
Again the Management Console asks me over and over again for the credentials of one of the central depots, although it has been specified with the IP address.
Sorry but Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Advanced Server is the crappiest piece of software I've ever seen. Backup software is meant to be robust, reliable and working, but none applies to this one.
I'm really pissed!

You may be seeing something that I am seeing in Acronis TIH 11. The software allocates a network connection and never releases it. Eventually, the server runs out of connections and will fail to accept additional connections. Acronis, running on the client, will then prompt to enter the credentials again and will not accept them.
A network connection is established when a backup is made of a any share. It is also allocated every time "Test Connection" is pressed. You will start to see Acronis asking for credentials after 10 presses of "Test Connection" as my XP server only is set up with a maximum of 10 IPC$ connections.
There are multiple ways to clear the connections. Probably the easiest is to log out of the client and re-log in. Try this and then see if backups begin to work again (for a while).
I have seen this happen with both XP and Samba share servers.
