Compression of already compressed files?

Thread needs solution

As I stumbled over a blog that describes compression methods of backup archives, I just came to question how Acronis Backup Method (normal compression mode) handles already compressed files to be backed up.

Lets say you have some sort of download folder with numerous compressed setup or archived zip or rar or whatever files.

As I know that the Volume is compressed as a whole, so you can not decide what to be compressed and what not, would there be no method to spare time with an intelligent algorithm, that decreases or don't do compression of already compressed files? What about MP3, Flac, or movie files that cannot be further compressed by a lossless compressor?

Is Acronis doing file recognition on MFT and FAT or raw data with no knowledge on what sort of file is to be compressed?

If you enable compression on your backup (enabled by default) Acronis will try to compress the entire volume/dataset you are baking up.
