Differential job hangs because of "Access to the file is denied" to pagefile.sys

Thread needs solution

Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 (build 10.0.11.345)

Access to pagefile.sys is denied even though i've added it to my exclusion list?
I need to log on to the server everytime and choose "skip all" before the job will complete...

I've ticked off "Exclude files matching the following criteria":
pagefile.sys
\\w2ksql01\d$\pagefile.sys

I hope someone can help me on this matter - it's pretty annoying.

Hello Jan!

Welcome to our Forum, we're glad you joined us! I completely share your concern and will be glad to help you!

Unfortunately due to the lack of diagnostic informaiton it is hard to say what exactly went wrong. Still I 've checked our internal resources, and I think, I can offer you a workaround before we start the investigation:

We have contacted the Development team, and still without testing its hard to say for sure, but most probably that's an exclusion glitch related to the file backup. Should you choose several files for backing up, exclusion may fail to work. But should you place this files to some particular folder and point our product to back it up, exclusion will work. For instance, you have 10 files with 3 *.tib archives among them. If you create "Backup" folder, move all files there, specify exclusion for *.tib extension and point onto this folder, *.tib files won't be backed up. But in case you explore that folder and point of the files themselves, *.tib will be included.

Could you please try this suggestion and see whether this workaround helped?

I would also appreciate if you could gather the following information:

  1. Exact sequence of steps performed
  2. Acronis Info

After that please kindly contact support directly with the information attached. Keep in mind that should there be any procrastination with the reply, you can always specify us the case number. We will do our best to speed up the process.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you!

I have simply choosen to backup the following destination: "\\w2sql01\d$"
I believe this is the same as selecting a folder?

I'm currently upgrading to the latest build.

I'll send the Acronis Info zip-file to the contact directly.

When I know more I'll reply here.

Thank you

I too am having a similar problem with a backup plan using Backup and Recovery 10 on a Windows Server 2008 machine. I get the error: Operation is waiting for user interaction.
Description:
Information: Failed to back up file or folder 'C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\UsrClass.dat'.
Details: Access to the file is denied.

Error code: 0x40014
function = "CreateFileW",
filename = "\\?\C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\UsrClass.dat"

The entire folder C:\Users\Administrator\AppData is unchecked in the What to back up section of Acronis Backup and Recovery 10, Edit Backup plan. As a result, the backup never completes without user intervention. Thanks in advance for your help.
