disk_data.ds.0 - What is this file used for?

Greetings,
I am looking at options for offsite replication of a deduplicated storage vault. I have a very large file in the root of the storage vault named disk_data.ds.0. This file is updated continuously while the Indexing task is running. What is this file used for? Is it possible to move a vault from one storage node to another without moving this file with it?
