Hello Brigachtal!

Thank you for your question, let me help you with it!

The backup of a system state is created if you choose to take a full backup: it takes the image of the entire HDD with the system configuration and the data on it. For this you need to choose to backup disks (in case they are not added to the dynamic volume) or volumes (in case they are added to the dynamic volume).

I'm sure I could give you more detailed answer if you could kindly specify me the details of the scenario you would like to proceed.

Thank you!

Please find out what a "System State" backup is before taking another try at answering this question. Acronis Home versions have the option to back up the "System State" which contains _only_ OS config, registry, & drivers etc. Other backup utilities (Backup MyPC, and Windows Backup for WinXP, Win2K for example) can do this as well. A "System State" backup is definitely *not* a backup of a whole disk or volume. Performing a "System State" backup in these products is accomplished by simply setting a checkbox. A typical "System State" backup of my Vista Business machine is around 4 GiBytes (with compression set to max) with Acronis Home 2009.

I too can not find out how to perform a "System State" backup in Acronis Backup and Restore 10. Is this function not supported In Acronis B&R 10?

Thanks

Hi,
I also need to backup the System State of some servers, without to save the whole disk, to save space.
If I only need, for example, to save an AD Domain Controller, because I need to save the AD database, Global Catalog, etc., I don't need to save the whole disk.
I'm testing this product (Acronis Backup and Recovery 10 - advanced) for my Company, to understand if we can propose it to our Customers, instead of BackupExec, ArcServe, etc., and I need to understand if your product is able to do all his competiors do as well.

Let us suppose that I need to backup 100 servers. Each server onws a 80GB system disk quite full. If I backup only the system states, I need about 400GB free space on my backup-storage, but If I backup the whole disks, I could need up to about 8TB (may be "only" 2-4TB compressed).
