How to retrieve all data and programs from ext HD to 're-image' new laptop HD ???
Checked TrueImage10.0_ug.en.pdf user guide and couldnt find detail description on how to retrieve data and software from full differential backup on external HD to new replacement HD at laptop.
Questions...
1. would need to install OS from original Dell install disks ?
2. install Acronis 10 from original install disk, or run from disk ?
3. use Acronis wizard to do recovery ?
4. if recover full backup, will that cause problems with what has already been installed from Dell install disks and Acronis recovery program ?
5. am sure we are missing other questions... ?

This is covered in item 7A inside my signature index below.
One method of copying a few files is to Right click on the .tib backup archive and choose explore. Find the files(s) you want and drag from the backup onto the hard drive.
If you restore a backup, this will replace the existing contents of the disk or partition so the hard drive will contain the same data as when the backup was created.

Thank you for the replies.
Sorry about the delay in this reply, didnt see any email notification of your posts.
Have initiated (b4 seeing your replies) the following steps...
1. loaded original Dell laptop software, including OS (XPpro) and drivers, onto the new Dell replacement HD
1. loaded Acronis10 from original program disk
3. started 'recovery wizard'
4. recovery is from external HD with Acronis differential backup 'E:\... \Acronis-CtoM750-091008_tbd12.tib' including all previous differential backup files and the original full backup file.
5. started recovery process and currently have 'Operation Progress' window on the laptop screen
6. says '1 day remaining', is that how long it should take, or did we screw up something ?

Hello all!
Thank you for finding time to open the thread regarding this question and for all your kind comments, special thanks to DwnNDrty and GroverH for their valuable assistance.
I just would like to address the last comment of akm.
The time of recovery process depends on many circumstances like the speed of connection to the target location and the size of the data, but anyway it shouldn't take so long. It is possible that it identifies the recovery time as 1 day at the very beginning, but should "speed up" in the middle of the process. In case it doesn't you should be either recovering a very huge file from, for instance, USB 1.0 hard or be a lucky owner of the Acronis Bootable Rescue Media that suffers from the lack of drivers.
In order to make sure that CD is not the reason of the case I have sent you the newer Acronis Bootable Rescue Media via PM and would appreciate if you could kindly test it to see whether the issue persists.
In case problem remains, we will need to take a closer look at the problem, so could you please kindly specify us the following?
- The location where the backup is stored
- The size of the image
- If possible, Acronis Info from the source machine
- If possible Acronis report from the source and the target machine (it can be burned to the CD as well)
Please contact us with the information gathered, we will review it, identify the reason and provide you with thesolution for your particular case.
Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!
Thank you!
