Imaging win7 hdd nukes system restore points?

Thread needs solution

So I`m trying to recover some machines from the Mbam snafu last week.. Decided to image them before doing a system restore just for cya. Before I imaged them, the machines had several restore points, after imaging machine by placing hdd in XP box as slave, booting the win 7 install via win7 recovery disk or win7 installation media shows no available restore points.. Obvious answer, dont do that anymore, right?? But WHY is that happening, anyone else run into this issue?

First, Backup & Recovery doesn't back up Windows restore points - they are always excluded during image backup ("c:\system volume informaton\{some_guid}" or something like this). Second, placing a disk with windows 7 restore points on it in an XP box without precautions indeed erases all restore points on it , see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/926185 . I don't know if the workaround from this article prevents imaging of such disk by the means of B&R.

Well, and now I know.. Guess I will be making a win 7 imaging station.. Any similar limitations imaging an XP disk in a Win7 computer??? :)

UGGGGH>>... Wish I would of known that about a week ago... Any way to recover the deleted restore points?  *edit  google says no.. :(*
