licens and MAC address

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I discovered that Acronis bind licenses to a machines MAC address.

I see some problems with that. When you install a Acronis workstation and license server locally on a laptop the license may get bound to the wireless LAN, but periodicly we may use the wired LAN and then Acronis cannot verify the license and refuses to run.

How do you handle this kind of issues?

Robert

Hi Robert,

I have the exactly the same problem and others have raised the same issue on the forums already.

I have a fully local installation (application and license server on the same PC) and I have installed numerous times to both my wire NIC and Wireless NIC.

If the NIC the software is bound (this happens during installation) to is not active (with an IP address acquired) when the acronis software starts on computer boot up then the software works but I can't run my backup tasks because it can't validate the NIC's MAC address with the license server because the NIC either is not active or was not active when the acronis services started.

I'm unsatisfactorily working around this at the moment by either restarting all the acronis services after the NIC is active with an IP address or as I'm running VMWare Workstation binding it to one of the VMWare virtual NICs which bypasses the problem completely as the VMWare virtual NICs start before the acronis services.

I have raised a case with acronis last week and i'm still waiting for a first level response.
