We are migrating Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 from our Dell Server 32 bit with OS Windows 2003 SBS Server to a Dell Server T420 64 bit with OS windows server 2008.

We can install Acronis but the Managed Machine Console doesn't even show in the installation. We have imported the license from old server to new server successfully.

Acronis installed on original Dell Server running Windows 2003 SBS. It was able to backup the server itself because it installed the managed machine console on the server. With the new server the Managed Machine Console doesn't install on the new server, therefore we cannot back it up.

Our main objective is to get Acronis to Back up our new Dell Server running Windows Server 2008.

Can you post the screenshot where it 'doesn't show' the first time where you expect it? Is it there on the component selection screen? In Program Files (x86)\Acronis folder? Are there shortcuts on the desktop? If it is an Advanced edition you can meanwhile install the console on some other machine and manage it remotely.

I've attached a pdf called "Compare 2008 & 2003 Inst.pdf" It shows what one can select to install. On the 2008 Windows Server the Managed machine components doesn't even show.

Management Console is checked on both screens. On the second one all components requiring a license are missing - maybe you selected to install only components not requiring a license or you have the SBS license for Backup&Recovery that won't install on 2008 server (not SBS)

Thank you, Fedor, for your reply.

Yes we do have SBS. It is my understanding from the manual that Acronis supports the following operating systems "Windows Server 2000/Advanced Server 2000/Server 2003/ SBS 2003/ SBS 2008/ Server 2008" This is taken directly from the Acronis User Guide.

Just so that I understand clearly. Does this mean that when we buy Acronis we get a seperate license for a specific operating system? ..... and not for the supported operating systems?

Just in order to keep this thread moving, I now have taken your advice based on your post of Sat, 2014-05-03. I decided that if our license is for SBS which in checking I see it is, then what I should do is put the license back on my 2003 Server and point the 2008 Server to it as the licensed server in order to install on the 2008 Server what it needs in order for the 2003 Server to back it (2008 Server) up remotely. But when I tried the installation again on the 2008 Server and pointed it to the IP address of the 2003 Server as the licensed server, it said it found no license on the 2003 server.

So I decided to test using the 2003 Server to back up local drives, but there I got an error message saying, "Failed to check the license key. The key is disabled." See attached screen shot.

So now I where do I go? Why can't I use the original license key that we bought with the 2003 SBS installation and have it working as it was previouly?

If your license is "Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Advanced Server SBS Edition" then it's good only for SBS operating system. If you install the agent (it's the part that requires a license) you need a license for "Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Advanced Server" ( not SBS) somewhere, and it seems that you don't have one. To see what's wrong with the license you have and why you can't back up you 2003 SBS machine as it was before, you can try to go to License Server console, check assigned liceses, revoke them if they are assigned incorrectly, then go to help->change license while connected to the machine with agent on SBS 2003 machine and assign the license from license server to it.
