Microsoft virtual PC

Thread needs solution

I am planning on getting a new laptop with Windows 7. I am also planning on creating a Virtual machine to run WIN XP. Can I restore an Acronis image created on the old laptop with XP and run it on the NEW laptop under a Virtual machine, with Acronis ? If so , how do I do that?

Hi James,
Yes, you can restore an image of XP to a Windows Virtual PC machine (if Virtual PC is available on your laptop: it is available only for Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise, and Ultimate editions, and you need to first download and install it). I assume you are using Acronis Backup & Recovery 11 Workstation edition, so you need to install it on the new laptop as well. Then proceed as follows: http://www.acronis.com/support/documentation/ABR11/index.html#5076.html. In step 6, choose "Virtual PC". Once the virtual machine files are created, you will be able to run this machine on the new laptop.
