Missed Backups

Thread needs solution

I would like to know how to set up backups so they will run if missed. I have a backup scheduled to start at 7PM. If the computer is OFF at 7PM, how do I at least get B&R 2010 to ask if I want to run the missed backup (or to just run it) when I startup next? I would like something that works for Full and Incremental backups (as well as the validate that is scheuled to follow each).

Using W7U.

Doesn't such as option exist inside your Scheduled tasks? Check the page where you change schedules and below the password window/

Not that I can find, and I cannot find the place you reference. Nevertheless, looking more closely as you suggest, under Backup Options, Settings I did find Task Failure Handling. It does NOT seem this setting will work for missed backup due to system not being on, but I'm going to give it a shot.

Validation of archives:

1. There is a Global setting which can cause the "archive validation" option to be prechecked when a new task is created but will have no effect on tasks already created. This can be found at Main Menu/Top Row Meu=Tools/Options/Local storage settings/Archive Validation.

2. To validate an existiing archive:
Select Recovery off the main menu
a.    If the archives is listed, click the desired listing. If not listed, click the button "Browse for Backup" and locate/select the specific archive to be validated. (Selecting the most recent backup within the chain will cause the entire chain to be validated.)

Once the proper archive has been selected, you can then click on the validate option across the top bar; or you can right click the file name and choose validate.

Screen will switch to the scheduling screen where yoy can click on the proceed button and the validation will begin immediately.

Or, you do want it to run immediately, you can schedule a time for the job to run. Your computer login password will be needed for job to run.  Choose the Finish option along the left margin so you can see whether the "run job now" is checked or unchecked accoring to your desires.  If finished with options, check proceed to close the task for it to either run or be scheduled based on your options.

3. To change a pre-existing task to be validated for future runs, you can edit the Tasks & Logs menu. This is not recommended as it has been know to change your backup locations and sequence numbering. A better suggestion rather than editing is to create a new task with the desired options and to either delete the old task or change the scheduling to "do not schedule."

The picture below shows an option to run an "if missed" option.

I'm using B&R 10 w UR. I cannot find a Backup Wizard function, nor any images similar to what you included. More specifically, I cannot find a "If missed, run the task at startup" option.

Are we talking about the same program?

No. You mentioned 'B&R 2010' and the wrong guess was that it's about ATIH 2010.
If "Run the task anyway after" option in sheduling/conditions won't work, I would schedule another task using the same archive to run at startup with condition 'time has passed since the last successful backup completed' and set the time to, say, 12 h

That is an interesting suggestion, but if backup is scheduled for 7PM and system is off at 7PM but a startup occurs at 9PM (2 hours later) the task you suggest will not start at 9PM. I guess the trick will be to figure the minimum safe interval to use. Could there be a conflict if next system startup is 'close' to 7PM on a future day and (a) 'shadow' task that is started because x time has passed since last successful backup completed is still running when 7PM backup starts OR (b) new backup started at 7PM but has not completed so 'shadow' task is started?

It may be better to specify the both conditions as two items of 'advanced' schedule, so that it will start "at 7PM or at startup", with addidtional condition 'time has passed since the last successful backup completed'. So it will not start this task again while it is already running if the system was started up, say, at 6:55.

B&R 10 does not seem to have the options you indicate (I cannot find them). Can you show images of the screen to use?

Set "Schedule type" to "custom", then there are three groups for full, incremental and diffrential backups. Click 'add schedule', in schedule dialog select 'daily' radiobutton, edit time, OK. Then again 'add schedule' , in the schedule dialog - 'on logon' radiobutton, OK. Then edit conditions (the link below the added schedules)

Thanks. I'm using Acronis Backup & Restore 10 Agent (build 10.0.11133) so the wording is not exactly as you describe. I was trying to set conditions when I should have set schedules, so your input was very helpful.

However,

1. I want to do a full backup on 1st of month with incremental backup on all other days, so it seems 'daily' will not work as this includes the 1st.
2. I selected Monthly.
3. For Full I created Schedule: Monthly on 1st @ 7PM.
3a. Also created Schedule: start the task if at least 31 days have passed since last successful backup. !!!!!?????
4. For Incremental I created Schedule: Monthly on each day except 1st @ 7PM.
4a. Also created Schedule: start the task if at least 1 day has passed since last successful backup.

I do not know if this will work as intended (need couple of days and missed backups to test) AND I am stumpted on how to set 3a (28, 30, 31 days???). Ideas needed.

If there is no option to schedule 'on logon' ( isn't it there?) it complicates the matter.

1. I do not know how to include image so I've attached it.

2. I think the Incremental Backup is now implemented as you suggested.

3. I still don't quite know what to do about missd Full Backups. Thoughts?

It depends on whether 'time since last successful backup' for full backup takes into account only full backups or any, including incremental. I don't know it and don't see in the UG. In the latter case the "after 31 days dince backup" condition for full backup will not trigger because of daily incrementals.
