"Not enough memory" error
I just did a full backup onto a USB drive. The backup file is about 1.5 TB. The next day I tried to do an incremental backup, and got a "not enough memory" error. The server is running 64-bit Server 2008, with 6 GB of RAM.
What do I do now?

Thanks, Anton. Are you talking about RAM or disk space? How would I figure out how much additional memory would be required?
Anton wrote:1. Always create a full backup.
The reason we want to use Acronis is that the data is too big to do a full backup every day; we can only do incrementals most of the time.
Anton wrote:2. Connect the external USB drive to another port USB on the same machine.
3. Connect the external USB drive to another machine and make it a shared network drive so that you can save the incremental backup to it through your network.
4. If it has an esata port, plug it in that way, or the other way around using USB, if it is plugged in as esata.
How would any of these changes solve the "not enough memory" problem?
Is the Acronis software smart enough not to over-buffer when writing to a USB drive? I've seen robocopy use up all 6GB of RAM when trying to copy a large file over a slow (USB) link; using xcopy in unbuffered mode solved that problem.

As far as I can tell, when the software says "not enough memory", what it means is "you need to have free space ON YOUR C DRIVE equivalent to 20% of the size of the data to be backed up, even if you're not backing up to or from your C drive".
Not quite sure why the error message didn't just say that. Maybe this post saves someone the frustration and lost time I experienced.
