[RESOLVED] Windows 8 compatability
I have just bought a new table top PC with Windows 8. If I try to backup with Acronis 10 it does not recognise the existence of my new C: disc.
When it does, will there be any problem restoring files, (including programmes but not operating system) from my old (Windows 7) backup to the new PC?
See the solution here.

My first problem is that with Acronis 11 (not 10 as stated earlier) installed on my new Win8 PC, I am unable to back it up at all to an external disc. In back up mode it does not recognize the existence of the mother disc on which it itself is based! The only option for back up is the external disc which would then be backing up to itself.
But surely, if that can be overcome, I will then be able to restore data files(Word, XL, emails etc.) to my new PC using my Acronis backup from my old PC? Won't I also be able to restore some programmes such as MS Office, as long as they are not involved in the Windows operating system? Or am I wrong?

Backup & Recovery 11 doesn't start on Windows 8 at all, so I may guess that you in fact use True Image Home (11 or 2011). File restore is not the same as disk backup, and probably will see all disks as a part of file system that can be seen for file backup (does it?)
All installed programs are 'involved' in operating system, as information about them are written in windows registry and under c:\Windows folder too.

Further to my initial query, I have since had other strange problems on my (new) Windows 8 PC and eventually found that my C disc was corrupted. When this cleared my problems vanished - including the Acronis difficulty above. I apologise for the false alarm.
