Restoring Acronis backup to VM is failing.

Thread needs solution

Hello,

We are trying to solve a dynamic disk issues with a virtual machine in Hyper-V environment. We created a new fixed vhd file with the propar size and added it on the virtual machine. Booted up the VM with the Acronis Boot CD and tried to restore the acronis backup of the VM to it.

The problem we are having is that the restore process is failling after a while. The VM is not pingable anymore through the network at that time. There is no error message shown.

The backup was at first stored on a synology through the netwerk. We assumed that this might be the problem and placed the backup on the local disk of the Hyper-Visor itself, but this did not solve the problem.

Does anyone experienced a similar issue and have a sollution that might help us?

The VM's are running on a Hyper-V Core server, Acronis Backup & Recovery 11 version 11.0.17438 is used.

Hello JWW,

Thank you for posting this question in our forum. I am happy to assist you.

When recovering a physical image from Windows operating system into a new created empty virtual machine, you need to use Acronis Universal Restore feature to ensure, that the correct drivers are used.

When using the Acronis Backup & Recovery 11 Virtual Edition, you are able to convert the backup directly to a new vm on the host. Find additional information at this page in our user guide. Also you can see the steps in this article from our knowledge base.
