usb boot media for tablet

Thread needs solution

We now have Dell Latitude 10 tablets however even with secure boot turned off the the Acronis created USB media will not boot. (wither linux or windows) It boots perfectly on all of our win7 laptop and desktops.
Windows 8 recovery media (USB) or the cut down Dell system recovery USB both work fine. However no matter what option I chose in Acronis the device will not see the device to boot. Same usb device formatted to the windows recovery works but as soon as I format it and use the Acronis tool it will not see it.

The tablet in windows 8 32 bit and the CPU is obviously Atom based.

Can you help me?

USB media can boot from the setup menu. Holding down the Volume+ when booting. The issue I have is the Acronis image loads for about 2 minutes with the win8 splash screen, then the tablet shuts off. Tried every variable I can think of. All the ST2 drivers are installed. Boots fine with a basic WinPE image, but not with the Acronis plug-in with WinPE 4.0. Using ABR 11.5.37687.

Has anyone had any success booting into Acronis on the Latitude 10 ST2?

One more note. My USB 3.0 sticks will not boot or even show up in the Boot Manager on the ST2. All my USB 2.0 sticks work fine.

Currently Acronis bootable media (as well as Startup Recovery Manager and recover with reboot) doesn't support 32-bit UEFI. If a 32-bit machine can't boot in legacy mode (like ones build on Clovertrail platform, like Atom Z2760), it won't boot to the bootable media. This includes linux-based and WinPE-based media.

Is this something that is going to work in a future version. Any idea of an ETA?

I can create a winPE environment using Deployment Workbench, but I would need to add the Acronis application, sort of like I have done for BartPE with a plug-in for earlier OS'es. Is there a way to add the Acronis app into WinPE using Deployment workbench?

I suppose I can get an image by installing Acronis into Win8, but how would I do a restore from boot on this Tablet? Any Ideas, anyone.

There is no ETA at the moment.
If on some step you copy sources\boot.wim to your WinPE based bootable media, you can try to run media builder to create .wim file, then use this .wim file instead of 'bare' source .wim file.

I am having this exact problem with the Latitude 10. This is absurd. I don't need vague workarounds. I need exact steps on how to get this to work. I would like to be able to create a bootable DVD / USB drive that will work on this Latitude 10. I have paid for several copies of True Image 2013 with the plus pack and I need this to work. I don't care if it is a Linux rescue disk, WinPE, or BartPE. I just needs to work and I need to know exactly how to create a disk that will get the job done. EXACT steps. Don't assume everyone is a developer and knows what you do. This is suppose to be an easy process.

If you have a newer rescue ISO file I can download, great! I'll try it. If you have a newer build of True Image Home 2013 and the Plus Pack for me to try, then give me a link to download it. Let's get this resolved.

BTW, I have tried EVERYTHING I could find on your forums / KB on Windows 7 and Windows 8. Nothing works.

Tried the acronis created wim file and it doesn't work. Won't bootup. I need an Acronis install that I can import into the WinPE deployment. Then maybe I can get somewhere.

Hello Everyone,

we have released a KB article that describes limitations of 32-Bit UEFI Devices Support in Acronis software.

Let me know if you have any additional questions.

Thank you.

Big help, we know it doesn't work. Where's the fix? I am currently searching for backup image solutions that work. Anyone have any?

The big help would be to clearly let everyone know about this deficiency clearly on your product page so True Image is not purchased for Dell Latitude 10 tablets or others with the 32-bit UEFI. Nice to know prior to purchase.

That said, I know it must be possible to create a WinPE boot disk / USB drive for the Latitude 10 as Dell even has files on their support website for versions 3.0 and 4.0. I would think your developers could easily work with Dell and Microsoft to solve this problem. This would be huge for Acronis as you would be the only ones that could image 32-bit UEFI systems that I know of.

Hello Harold,

thank you for your feedback!

I've forwarded it to our management and will keep you posted.

Best regards.

I use Acronis for many years an in various Versions.
I can not understand, that Acronis not solve this Problem. Is it not possible to create a iso with a x86-UEFI loader for registrated customers?

The Motto of Acronis should be "It is possible!"

Or is there a new Version of Acronis True Image which solve this Problem?

UEFI x86 is not supported by Acronis. Try Paragon. I think they support it.

Dear TcsonPC

I have paid a lot of money for the various Versions of Acronis and not of the Versions in function with uefi 32bit.
Thank you very much for your mind.
I have installed "paragon backup and recovery 14 free", created a recovery disk x86 (USB and iso for cd) and both is on function.
And thats for free.

This is what i mean: The Motto of Acronis should be "It is possible!"

The real Acronis issue is their foreign engineers are too out of touch and inexperienced with the needs of the users. It takes them weeks to fix simple problems let alone major changes. I think they use to have the talent, back in the version 10 and previous days, but not anymore.

So don't expect too much from them.
