Using the Universal Restore process..

Thread needs solution

Just purchased and installed:
Acronis True Image Echo Server 9.7:

and also:
Acronis Universal Restore for True Image Echo Server:

Regarding the Universal Restore process...
can I use a "normal" image backup made from my acronis 9.7
to restore from, in the event I'm restoring to a different
hardward configuration....
or do I need to create a separate(different kind of acronis image backup)
to be able to use the Universal Restore process?

Hello john bennett,

Thank you very much for your post. I will be happy to assist you.

In order to transfer Windows to dissimilar hardware using Acronis Universal Restore you will need to create an Acronis Bootable CD, with the Acronis Universal Restore component. Acronis Universal Restore works only from the bootable CD. There is no need to install Acronis Universal Restore to create an image. It is needed to be installed only for creating the bootable CD.

The important part in the restoration process to dissimilar hardware, would be to provide the correct drivers with the correct extension. The driver files should have *.inf, *.sys or *.oem extension.

I would recommend the following 2 articles from our Knowledge Base that explain in great detail how to restore to dissimilar hardware.

- Transferring Windows to Dissimilar Hardware

- Backup to USB, Create Acronis Bootable Media, Restore with Acronis Universal Restore

Thank you.
