Validation task always fails "failed to run backup and recovery engine"

Thread needs solution

I have a task that backs up the system drive. The validation task always fails. Windows 7 Ultimate x64. Acronis BER 10 build 11345. Nothing is written to the windows event log. Here's the Acronis log:

New problem. My system got to a bad state where I had to do a recovery. I have two recent backups of the system drive: one in an Acronis Secure Zone on a separate disk, and another on a normal partition of a third disk. I attempted recovery using a boot disc and it failed. The first image proved to be corrupt. The second one did just enough recovery to leave the system drive completely unuseable, then failed. The log says that this backup was corrupt to. These were fresh backups.

I had no way to know the backups were "corrupt" because the validation task was never running successfully, always showing the log pasted in my first post on this thread ("unable to run backkup and recovery engine"). Even got that same problem when trying to validate an image using the boot disc.

These kind of results are extremely disappointing, especially considering how many upgrades I've bought over the years. Backup and recovery never had this kind of problems with earlier releases.

I already have investments in 3 licenses of current Acronis products. I never had these kinds of problems with the previous versions of Acronis backup. Always swore by it. But BER10 (and TIH2010 too) have caused nothing but frustration. "Automated" backups on external drives are always having to be watched to see if they ran. It never starts a missed task, regardless of settings that say "run task when device connected". Sometimes the task will magically forget where the backup archive is, then fails to run until I manually go into the task and tell it where to find the archive (again).

Sounds like a laundry list of complaints, but after all the troubles just getting backup tasks to complete, and this dismal failure to recover my Windows 7 home file server from either of two backups, I don't have any confidence in the product right now. Has it become too complex and too ambitious? I bought BER10 workstation for the GFS scheme, which seemed perfect for my home networking file server. And I bought TIH2010 for Windows 7 support (different machine), but I have to manually supervise the task executions. If I wasn't running Windows 7, I think I'd go back to the previous version (Echo TI Workstation) and forget about BER10. But I guess that's not an option on Windows 7.

Hello, I have exactly some same problems Jay mentions (well, I had just 2 licenses):

I hope in God don't have trouble with corrupt backups, because ATIH2010 never noticed me about it!.
Jay says some extremely serious errors (01)NO validate, (02 NO recovery, (03)Corrupt backup (To Verify), (04)NO starts a missed task, (05)Task will magically forget where the backup archive is (external HD), (05)ATIH2010 says no space available (220GB), when MY full backup just will takes 130GB, (06)You say Incremental backup would have to be smaller than 1st full backup, in my case it's 900MB bigger, (07)One-Click Backup never starts... I don't understand why so many errors! :( etc.) ... errors that I have had at least once; this is worrying me too much knowing the time of needing a backup, it is not going to be able to use it, I think I'm in my first frustration stage. :(
...Did I forget mention I'm Windows 7, 64bits user?
God bless you bye. :)

I have the same issue as Jay Hancock above, using Win 7 64 bit. The failure blurb is:

Hello all,

Thank you very much for your posts. I am sorry for not responding earlier but I will do my best to assist you.

We are very close to releasing Acronis Backup and Recovery 10 Update 2 and I would recommend to install it and address any later issues with it that you may have. We have improved a lot of issues and hopefully you will not be disappointed.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

Hahah... That's the answer I keep getting from you guys for every issue I've encountered.

When I encountered problems with TIE 9.1, you tell me to upgrade to B&R Server 10.
When I encountered problems with the first release of B&R Server 10, you told me to update to 10112 or something like that.
I must have updated 3 versions after the initial release of B&R 10, now that I'm running 11345, and the software is still buggy
as hell.

Hello Ken King,

Thank you very much for your feedback and I am terribly sorry for the inconvenience.

I would like to assist you with any issues that you are having with Acronis Backup and Recovery 10, so if you could please let me know about them and I will be very happy to resolve any problem that you are having.

Let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

Well, I'm have validation fail errors in XP and W7 using B&R10 (volume and file). W7 is to local USB drive. XP is to shared remote USB drive. In all cases these are scheduled backups. The backups run but validation fails. Validation normally starts (I've gotten 45% complete) before failing.

I've tried restores and they seem to work. What is the status of this issue as it seems to be long-standing?

Hello Vernon,

Thank you for your question. I will be happy to assist you.

In the latest build of our software which is 11639, we have resolved the issue with the validation failing after a scheduled backup.

I am sorry for the inconvenience, but could you please provide additional information about the validation errors that you are getting. I will be able to assist you more this way. Just in case, the error message: failed to run backup and recovery engine is a generic error meaning that there is an issue and it is always accompanied by additional error information. If you can run the AcronisInfo report and send me a private message with it attached, I will be able to study the logs and tell you why this problem occurs.

You can also submit a support request in case you need additional assistance.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.
