Backup and restore of a Domain Controller

Thread needs solution

Hello,

I bought Acronis Backup for VMware 9 for the company I work and I really like the product. Backup and recovery works great!
But I habe one question regarding the backup of AD-Servers running Windows Server 2012. I defined a backup job with application-awareness activated. I know how to restore Exchange-Databases on one of our other servers, but how can I restore the AD-settings of a machine? I can only see the options for Exchange, SharePoint and SQL-Server. I use the latest Build of the software.

Thanks for the answer!

Hi Benjamin,

The application-awareness for Active Directory implemented in Acronis Backup for VMware 9 is ensuring the consistency of AD database inside the backup and ensures proper recovery of entire VM which runs the DC, i.e. we prevent the "USN rollback" problem by taking backup with all required consistency checks. Right now there is no granular recovery for AD objects and it can be done only by using 3rd party tools (extract the AD database from the VM backup and then use tools to perform items recovery). We're planning to add AD granular recovery in the next version, though the final date is not defined yet.

Thank you.
