vmware_vddk: the host is not licensed for this feature ???

Thread needs solution

Hi,

one of our customers is still running vmProtect 9 (build 9.2.10571) with VMware ESXi 6.0

After updating the VCenter from 6.0u1 to 6.0u3 all backups on all hosts are failing with this error:

--------------------------

Fehlercode: 208
Module: 83
Zeileninfo: c61573f663f5d76f
Felder: code : 16064
Nachricht: VMware_VDDK: The host is not licensed for this feature.

--------------------------

The ESX hosts are running versions 6.0u1 and 6.0u3.

All licenses look absolutely normal.

What can we do?

Regards

Dennis

Hello Dennis,

I'd recommend checking the privileges for backup and recovery of virtual machines, probably some permissions were reset after updating the ESXi.

We use the "root" User which has full administrator rights.

How can this user not have enough privileges??

just discovered that running the backup directly against ESXi host 6.0u3 is working fine.

but via VCenter Server 6.0u3 it is NOT working anymore.

Is vmprotect9 not compatible with Vcenter 6.0u3 ?

6.0 is listed as support ESX version, so there shouldn't be compatibility issues. Check out solutions from https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/2063054

yes, i know (6.0u1 worked)

but can you please check on 6.0u3 ?

Hello Dennis,

I haven't found any known issues for ESXi 6.0 Update 3

Please make sure you've applied all permissions from https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/2063054 and the host has VMware vStorage APIs option enabled under Configuration -> Licensed Features (see https://kb.acronis.com/content/14931 for more details)
