Data is corrupted: CRC mismatch or internal data structures mismatch

Thread needs solution

Hello Acronis Community,

3 days ago we had some problems with the all incremental backup plan für some virtual machines. All the activities for these two machines were not successful after the 23.04.2022. The error reason for that is saying that the backup is damaged (Data is corrupted: CRC mismatch or internal data structures mismatch) and that could be because of hardware problems. What would be the steps to recover all the incremental backups for the past and can use this plan again to backup these two machines?

In the Knowledge Base I only find an article about Cyber Protect, where you can repair such a state with a setting but how can I repair this with product Cyber Backup?

Thanks in advance for your answers and please let me know if you need more information.

Hello Volker Brand!

Which KB article are you referring to? I'm not aware that there is a way to fix a corrupted backup.

Have you tried exporting any of the recovery points in the backup chain, to see if only the last backup is bad or the entire archive chain is corrupted?

Hello Peter,

this is the KB article I was writing about: https://kb.acronis.com/content/67908

But as I mentioned this is only for Cyber Protect.

Yes, I tried to export some of them but no chance.

So in fact all the incremental backups from the last two years are gone without any chance to repair the chain and make the backups readable again?

Hello Volker!

Interesting function, but yeah it's not available in 12.5 yet it seems.

So in fact all the incremental backups from the last two years are gone without any chance to repair the chain and make the backups readable again?

Unless you can find a point in the chain that's valid, I'm afraid so. Do you have validation configured, or run one on all of these backups you are having problems with?
