DB permissions for Acronis server update

Thread needs solution

Hello,

I have a question: is there (a good) reason, why Acronis installation package requires sysadmin permissions on the SQL server for the installation/update process and why "dbcreator" role is not enough?

Sysadmin role is, by standard, not allowed for any user accounts in our environment, so before every server update I have to go through quite a chore to get these permissions approved, at least temporarily for the duration of the update process.
I, personally, don't see a reason, why Acronis should require this role. OK, if you need to create new databases, then fine, but why not be satisfied with "dbcreator" role?

Thank you

Lukas

Hello Lukas,

thank you for posting on Acronis forums!

In fact, "dbcreator" role should be enough for installation, please see this KB article with troubleshooting: https://kb.acronis.com/content/62675
