Cloud Backup is slow

Thread needs solution

My cloud backups are super slow. Although I have 150/150 fiber service (tested), my backups are routinely around 5 Mbps.

For reference...

  • Local PC backups are 800 Mbps
  • Connected via WIFI to the Internet; transmit speed to router is 877 Mbps
  • Backup speed from another computer connected to same network via WIFI, backing up to this PC is 288 Mbps

I've read through several related support articles/topics.

What I've tried...

  1. General system report file to large to upload herein
  2. Acronis Speed Test only selects a server outside of the U.S.
  3. Backup Operation priority is High
  4. Backup Network connection is set to Maximum
  5. No ability to install/run a specific Acronis Backup Test Agent, that I'm aware of

I noticed a support topic for the Cyber Protect product there was the ability to increase the cache size... Does such an option exist for ATI?

My PC:

ATI: 2021, Build 35860
ATI local backups: tibx files
OS: Windows 10 Pro
RAM: 64 GB
Drive: NVMe SSD

Not 100% sure that I understand the nature of your problem. There are many factors that impact on the backup speed to Acronis Cloud. We can rule out the speed of you internet connection (150/150 Mbps is much faster than my 100/36 Mbps cable connection). The top backup speed to the Acronis Cloud does not always take full advantage of upload/download speeds. This could in part be due to load balancing by the Acronis server, by the need for much of the processing to be done on the local PC and the need to confirm packets have been received and appropriately dealt with (requires download). I have seen peek speeds over 25 Mps, but on recent backups I have seen overall speeds of 12 to 15 Mbps according to the activity listing. There were some at low as 6 Mbps. [Another computer is much slower but that is probably due to it being under heavy load with multiple video files being edited.]

Have you tested the connection speed to the Acronis server to which you are backing using the tool specific to that server? See 47145: Acronis Cloud Connection Verification Tool.

Thanks @Ian. Server checks all success. I really thought I would see at least 10 Mbps. Oh well.

Scott, I would have expected higher speeds that you experience.

Not sure if backup speeds have decreased over time; I moved from a 100/5 to 100/36 internet connection in June 2020, which at the time appeared to make a big difference in backup times. Unfortunately Acronis do not provide performance parameters for backups to Acronis Cloud.

Face it.  They are selling more than they are willing to deliver.  I pay for 1000Mbps from FIOS.  I have tested that service with multiple computers on my network using Cat 6 and WiFi and my phone, I get a realistic 500-600 Mbps upload over and over again.  Even in replicate mode, after validation to a local device, Acronis crawls along at maybe 5-7Mbps.  All they need to do is COPY.  They estimate 2 days to copy a backup that is already compressed, encrypted and saved on a local SATA III connection that took less than 1 hour.  My CPU and disks are crawling.  So that is not the problem.  Acronis is the problem.

Their version of the cloud is a come-on that sells the product and then you can't get them on the phone or easily cancel your subscription.  I could use their local product.  That works well.  Then I would gladly pay, 1 time, for real local backup. Instead, they are renting me cloud storage which is unusable.  It bugs me that they won't admit that their product isn't practical.  Maybe you can download a couple of files - that worked.  But when I need to restore a drive, it timed out and timed out and time out and then just quit like this was 1990 and I was using dial-up.  Anyone remember those good ole days?  Well, Acronis is nostalgic.   They think we want those good ole days back.

I didn't realize how bad it was until I needed to actually use it.  It was beyond 30 days.  They won't give me my money back.  I am not even sure how to cancel it before they start charging my credit card for renewals at a higher rate.  They were once a good product.  I don't know it they have the same management.  I don't care.  It is only my problem because they have my credit card and can go on charging me until I cry uncle.  So, I will write occasional reviews like this in the hope that it will save someone else from having this grief.

Hey, apparently you, Acronis, moderate this.  Then read my last comment and give me my money back or I will post the same comments where you cannot moderate them.  FU

I have the same problem on 6/25/2023. Cloud backup is very very slow. Much slower than another backup company.

The local backups are working.

But if an electrical surge hits my external drive storing the local backup files and the cloud backup is not completed then I'll be in deep sneakers.

I may want to\have to move to another backup company and write-off the subscription fee.
