Acronis True Image 2021 ... Personal Cyber Protection

Thread needs solution

My copy of ATI-2016 stopped running regular backups - - so, I've upgraded to ATI-2021 (I was able to purchase a non-subscription / perpetual licence via Amazon Australia).

Installation went fine - Problem tho, is that it's running EXTREMELY SLOWLY ... It takes forever for the user-interface to move from one backup scenario to another - or indeed, to do anything on the UI.

Task Manager reports ATI as "Not responsive" - but with low resource usage.

Any suggestions, anyone ???

Ahhh - It seems the related (and UNWANTED) AntiMalware features are causing a problem -- I can get ATI to respond properly if I suspend some of the (so called) "Protection" services.

How can I disable the AntiMalware features completely AND permanently ???

John, sorry but the only way to completely & permanently disable the Acronis Cyber Protection features would involve hacking the application to rename or delete files and remove registry entries etc, all of which would be undone by any application updates!

If you are willing to wait, then Acronis have said they are considering allowing a modular install in a new version of ACPHO under development, but this is unlikely to appear before autumn 2022 and will still remain a subscription product.  Even with this approach you will be paying the subscription for the full application even if you only install the minimal base Backup & Recovery components!

In the interim time, all you can do is to turn off all Cyber Protection features using the option in the GUI Protection panel, and disable other background Services such as Sync Agent, Mobile Backup and Non Stop Backup if these are not being used (done via the Windows Services control panel services.msc).

Even with Cyber Protection turned off 'permanently' there are still a number of associated background Windows services which remain running & active!

See forum topic: Reflecting on a Post-ATI World - where other users have discussed the above and looked at alternative solutions to Acronis.

Thanks, Steve - - I found step-by-step instructions to do so here.

As you say; I'll need to be sure to avoid any Acronis updates so that this fix is not undone.

As a general comment, tho; it's hard to understand why Acronis are willingly crippling their best-in-class backup software with this unwanted "feature" ?!
