Cyber Protect prevent installation of software - no error messages; plus support not proviced

Thread needs solution

I attempted to install Right PDF Pro 6 recently. The installer started but then just sat there, appearing to hang. After much experimentation over weeks I eventually uninstalled True Image 2021. Now the software installs fine.

To aggravate this situation, I cannot log a support ticket. Acronis has now implemented a "not supported" feature when the product ages. Mine ran out 10th May, it's now the 31st.

I have been an Acronis customer since 2015. Cyber Protect is an awful addition to a good backup product. It negatively impacts performance, causes support issues like the installation problem I mentioned above, and the company is greedy in not providing support to loyal customer who have paid hefty subscription fees for years. No more!

I have never had a program failing to install because of ATI/ACPHO.

I installed the program on my AMD Ryzen 5 PC, running Windows 11 Pro with latest build of ACPHO; I also successfully installed on my Intel i5 9400 build running Windows 10 Enterprise with the latest build of ATI 2021 (but in that case much of the cyber protection was disabled as I also had Norton 360 on that system). The Ryzen 5 did not have Norton 360 so full cyber protect was working.

Ian

PS Neither of my systems replicate your exact setup, so it may still be that ATI 2021 was the cause. The latest build of ATI 2021 is 39287.

I am not sure what else to add to my original post in response Ian. The Acronis TI 2021 software was up to date, the installation of Right PDF failed, I removed Acronis and the installation succeeded.

I did not expect anything from you. It is possible that there is an issue with ATI 2021 that is not in ACPHO. If I have the opportunity may try it on Virtual Machine with ATI 2021.

I appreciate the thought Ian, thank you. My next move will be away from Acronis. Been with them since 2015, I have paid update fees every year. The backup part of their software is good, the 'cyber protect' is not IMO. I have previously requested:

  • To be able to install just the backup software
  • To be able to switch off the Cyber security i) permanently or ii) temporarily
  • To have the cyber security notify the current user of any blocks
  • To have better visibility of log files

To my knowledge, none has made it to the front of the development queue. Given Acronis has other priorities the product no longer suits my needs. This final problem makes for a good catalyst to part company.

All the best to you and all the volunteers who are giving of your time freely.

Please keep an eye out for a new version of ACPHO sometime later this year which Acronis have been reworking / rewriting from the ground up and which should satisfy most of the features in your list.

Ok Steve, thank you.
