First Cloud Backup questions

Thread solved

I am starting my first cloud backup later this week after upgrading to ACPHO Premium.

I have looked through the documentation and could not figure out if I could create "folders" in the cloud for my backups.  Say PC 1 with subfolders "Drive C" and "Drive D" for what I plan to have as 2 separate backup jobs. Then PC 2, etc.... In the manual it talks about identifying a "path to the vault" but I guess that assumes there are sub-folders?  Just learning here....

Also, are there any special considerations as to when to force a new image?  I plan to have incremental backups and for my local backups I create a new image about once a quarter.

Just curious what best practices were for cloud storage.

I already have an acronis account that has my old perpetual license and new Cyber Protect license.  Once I install will my account populate with a link to the cloud or is that yet another login?

Thanks,

BJB

BJB, sorry but there are no options that would allow users to create separate folders for specific backup data content, however, this is not needed as backups are normally associated with the system that they are created from.

Likewise, backups to the Acronis Cloud only ever create a single full backup image and upload it then all subsequent backups use a delta / hybrid incremental approach with versioning of uploaded new data.

The only way to force a new full backup would be to create a new backup task using a new unique backup task name!

Got it!  So the options are different than for local backups.  I missed that, thanks.

Getting ready to use some of that upstream bandwidth!

Sorry for the delay in marking as a solution!

I currently have a task that wakes up my PC for my local backup.  Will the cloud backup automatically wakeup my PC from sleep (not hibernate, just regular) or should I duplicate my windows wakeup task.  It is basically a custom task that invokes the windows sign in screen or something.  It works...

Also, if my cloud backup is still going when the local task is scheduled to start, is the program smart enough not to try to do both? Or is there a way to temporarily delay the local backup?

Thanks,

BJB

If you have set the Scheduler > Advanced options to wake the computer from sleep etc, then this should work just the same as for any local tasks.

Acronis only ever allows one backup task to be active at any time, so if one takes longer to finish, any other tasks will be queued if their scheduled time is missed.

With Cloud backups, only the first initial full upload would be expected to be long running due to the potential volume of data, after which further backups should be much faster unless you have made significant changes to the source data, i.e. upgraded the version of the OS etc.
