NSB stopped working. Not enough space.

Thread needs solution

Hi

I'm running the latest build under W10 21H2.

My NSB task has been running faultlessly for ages.

I had always presumed that it would manage the history and delete older files as required to manage the free space.

If I noticed the free space on the destination drive was getting small, I would tweak the partitions to gain some extra free space. The destination partition is now 877GB on a 2TB drive.  I had forgotten to check the free space and today got the notification NSB had stopped due to insufficient space.

Surely the NSB data should not swell forever requiring more and more space?

Is there away to choose how much history is kept or manage the space efficiently?

Thanks for any info.

I can only recommend reviewing the information for NSB in the ACPHO User Manual as this is one feature that I never use as have never had a need for it.

In the section about NSB data storage it states the following:

Before creating Acronis Nonstop Backup data storage, Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office checks whether the selected destination has enough free space. Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office multiplies the volume of data to be protected by 1.2 and compares the calculated value with the available space. If the free space on the destination satisfies this minimum storage size criterion, the destination can be used for storing Nonstop Backup data.

Is it possible that your NSB source data has increased in size such that the destination no longer meets the rule set out above?

Thanks Steve.

My data hasn't increased that much.

I think something has gone awry so deleted it and created a new NSB task. Total data to be backed up 825GB. Destination partition size is 910GB. Should be more than ample free space.

Is there any info on if NSB stores x number of file versions or overwrites previous versions so there is only one version of each file?

Surely there must be a limit to how much history it will keep?

Even Apple Time Machine will start to delete older files when the free space gets low..

Cheers.

Total data to be backed up 825GB. Destination partition size is 910GB.

Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office multiplies the volume of data to be protected by 1.2 and compares the calculated value with the available space.

825 x 1.2  = 990 meaning that your destination partition is 80GB short in free space.

The user manual gives the retention rules for NSB using Cloud but not for local storage but would suspect them to be similar, though that are hardcoded and cannot be changed!

Somehow it miscalculated the amount of data to backup. Ive checked it twice and the correct total is 510GB. 510 x 1.2 = 612. The destination partition is 908GB so there should be ample free space.  The NSB task is now running successfully and the the time explorer folder contains 461GB. Currently there's 446GB of free space. I'll keep an eye on it. According to the x 1.2 rule I shouldnt need to increase the destination partition size. Cheers.
