Option Acronis Cloud cleanup - question

Thread solved

Hi all,

Creating my fist cloud backup, folder to cloud.

With respect to the Option > Advanced > Acronis Cloud Backup
there are two options

(i) Store no more than x recent backup versions

Does this mean that only the last x incrementals will be saved?

or does it mean if i run the backup manually (i.e. creating may full backups) that only x of those will be kept?

I assume the second option but woudl like confirmation.

(ii) Delete versions that are older than y months

is this similar to (i) but relates to the date of the backups?

Lastly, if i change this option in the backup after I have already created a backup, then will the settings take effect without starting the backup all over again?

Thanks for any assistance.

Adrian, welcome to these public User Forums.

All Cloud backups only ever upload a single full backup which is done on the first run, after which a different approach is used where a hybrid incremental / delta process is employed.

The clean up rules just allow for a degree of versioning for the files captured in your backup operation, in essence if you select to store 3 versions, then any older versions of files are consolidated with the initial full backup and only the latest 3 versions of those files are kept to allow recovery.

The same applies to the delete older than rules, it just means that any file versions beyond the age set are also consolidated unless the changes are due to the original source file(s) being deleted which would mirror the deletion through after the age is passed.

Any changes to the rules would take effect immediately within the limitations of what is changed, i.e. if you previously set to store only 2 versions then increase this to 6 versions, it cannot magically find the 4 versions that were never created up to this point!

Thanks, Steve.

That is helpful. certainly better information than Acronis Support gave.
