Can't COPY partition to USB-attached HDD

Thread needs solution

I was trying to COPY a partition on my laptop from the main drive, which is an SSD, to A USB-attached HDD. If it matters, the HDD is an old 320 GB Seagate. Even after I upgraded to release 2343, this operation failed. I tried several times. The target drive had 196 GB free and I was trying to copy an 11.5 GB partition.

When I COMMITed to copy the volume, the operation proceeded but I got a message saying that I needed to format a "drive G:" I'm not sure why that was necessary if I was trying to copy a partition. Then I got a message about "insufficient rights" that also mentioned that the target drive may be read-only or I don't have sufficient permissions, etc. I cancelled the operation, but the partition was created, with an exclamation point in a small red circle.

My system is running Win 7 Professional 64, fully to date with all Microsoft patches. What do I do now? Do you need any more information?

I forgot to mention that using the standard Win 7 Administrative Tools, Disk Management, I was able to create and format partitions on that target HDD.

Hello Phil,

if your disk is not under warranty any more you can open the drive case and connect the disk to your computer using SATA adapter. It might help in such situations.

However, without investigation it is hard to say what exactly caused the issue. If the above doesn't solve the problem I would recommend you to contact our support

Thank you.
