Converting a dynamic volume to a basic volume without losing the files

Thread needs solution

My C drive crashed and had to be replaced. My other drive had been partitioned into 2 dynamic volumes. Bios sees them as healthy. Windows Vista 64 grays the 2 volumes and sees them as dynamic volumes with no disk label and they are not accessible. Linux could not mount them. I want to convert them to basic and hope that windows will give me access to these files. Disk director will do this but warns that they must be simple volumes or the data will be gone. How can I tell if they are simple volumes. Do I need to purchase another program such as Easeus or whatever to do this without losing all my files?
Thank you for any help as I am desperate after 6 days of frustration.

A simple volume uses space from a single disk. Also, DD should show "simple" in the graphic of the volume.

Will DD let you browse the files on the dynamic volumes? This would at least let you know if the files are intact. Windows is probably blocking the drive because it's foreign. You could look in Disk Management and see if there's an option to import it when you right-click the drive.

Please note that it's always recommended to create an Entire Disk Image backup prior to making partitioning changes, regardless of the program used.
