A disk read error occurred - Press ctrl alt del to restart
I created a bootable ISO of Acronis Disk Director 12077 (WinPE based).
I booted the computer (Windows XP SP3) with the bootable disc and cloned the first disk onto the second disk:
first disk: Western Digital WD1600AAJS (160 GB, contains WinXP SP3 and all my data)
second disk: Seagate ST3500418AS (500 GB, empty, sealed from the factory)
I used all the default options proposed by Acronis Disk Director (automatically resize the partition in the destination disk to fill the entire disk, "NT signature" was left unchecked).
I turned off the computer, disconnected the first disk, and connected the second disk in its place (I used the same SATA port on the mainboard, the SATA0 port).
I turned on the computer and I was greeted with this message:
A disk read error occurred
Press CTRL-ALT-DEL to restart
Is this normal behaviour?
Please note that I used all the default options, I didn't change any option.

I'm becoming more and more convinced that the problem is related to alignment.
I've cleaned the second disk by booting from the bootable disk (using diskpart clean).
Then, I've run symantec ghost32.exe (from ghost solution suite 2.5.1) and cloned the first disk again into the second disk.
Turned off computer, disconnected first drive, turned on again... and voila! the computer boots correctly.
I've checked the alignment, and symantec ghost preserves the original alignment of 31.5 KiB (32256 bytes).
I think that Acronis should do the same. Your current behaviour is very undesirable!

I had the same issue with Disk Director Home 11. Build 216. This then was fixed with build 2121.
So i'm a little surprised that this error also is present in the current build of the advanced edition of DD, because this was releases later than the Home edition.
But i think Acronis will fix it in the next build.

That's quite strange!
Maybe there are two different development groups inside Acronis, one for home products and another for business products??
They should talk to each other and comment the bugs they have fixed. It would be beneficial to the company!
Regards.

Hi Yana,
i am in touch with Anton in this case since 2010-10-11. In the Home edition this error was then fixed in Build 2121. I don't use the Advanced edition.

Dear Forellenblau,
Thank you for the information provided!
You're absolutely right, according to our information it was. Still the architecture of the Advanced and Home version is very much alike, so we're very concerned regarding the situation Daniel reports. It may be some glitch that can be easily solved - or the major issue which should be fixed by the Development team.
That's why we anyway prefer to request the diagnostic information, and check all the available information.
Thank you once again for your cooperation and help.
