HP SimpleSave

Thread needs solution

I have an HP SimpleSave 500G disk, which has a protected area on it with the HP crap. How can I reformat this so that I can use it as an extra disk?

I have tried in DOS to format f: but it tells me that the area is write-protected. Other than that, using DD, I have been able to format the other portion but it does not show up when I look at my f: drive. Now I have a useless 500G with only 884 kb available!

Can you post a screenshot of what DD (in Manual Mode) shows and one of what Windows Disk Management shows?

Does HP have a utility for removing the write-protected area?

How big is/was the protected area?

Hello,

Rick,

If you are not familiar with making screen shots, please read the below step-by-step instructions.
- Get to the window which you want to make a screen shot of;
- Hit the (Alt+)PrintScreen button on your keyboard;
- Run Paint usually available in Start\Programs\Accessories or another graphics application;
- Choose Paste command in Edit menu;
- Save the result picture in JPEG format being preferable.
