Partitioning a 3TB WD Mybook Essential?

Thread needs solution

Hi guys

I hope an easy one. I think I'm just missing something.
:-)

In both Drive cleanser and DD10 my partitions created on a 3TB Western Digital Mybook Essential show up having a 'c' on them.

I think that (in this case) it does not mean that there is an error, but instead means it has a problem with the formatting or two NTFS partitions I put on.
I am guessing, but it may be to do with exceeding the 2Tb limit.

Can someone explain a procedure for partitioning the drive and formatting in two NTFS partitions please? (using any app)

I will try removing and updating the SMARTWARE software as well.

IMPORTANT
I wish to ensure I have no problemsand ensure the two NTFS partitionsl work seemlesly with XP Pro or Windows 7. It IS meant to be a backup drive, and therefore I want as reliable as possible.

I have use Disk Management in Administrators tools.

Thanks in advance anyone!

Pete

Yes. For capacity over 3 GB it has to be a GPT disk, and - http://kb.acronis.com/content/1827 ADD 10 doesn't support this partition scheme.
But windows XP (I assume it's a 32-bit one) will not recognize GPT partition scheme ( there are some references to a utility that changes logical sector size of the disk, allowing to create a MBR disk over 2 TB - http://community.wdc.com/t5/General-Discussions/Seagate-3tb-hard-drive-… , but then it will not be recognized by windows 7 and by Acronis software)
