Resize doesn't work in DD 11 Home Update 2
I have just downloaded and installed Disk Director Home Update 2. I tried to resize a partition in Drive C: to increase size and taking from other partitions. The risize doesn't work, I got the log entry:
An unknown error
Error code: 1032
Message: an unknown error
Error code: 1151
Message: an internal error
Any clues?
Thanks
Sergio

Thanks. Yes, I am trying from Windows. I will try from the DD CD.

I'm having the exact same issue and it fails both via Windows and from the boot media created by update 2.

Have you checked the partitions involved for any file system errors (chkdsk /f)?
Is there unallocated space next to the partition or are you having DD take free space from another partition?
Can you post a screenshot of what DD shows?

As it is the boot drive, I went into the properties for the drive --> Tools tab and selected check the drive. I then rebooted and watched CHKDSK run. When it came back clean, I again scheduled CHKDSK, but this time with a bad sector check and went through all 5 stages (took hours).
As for the screenshot, I took a photograph of it -- (no screenshots available when you reboot, I think). I can upload it, if you want, but here is what it says:
Acronis Disk Director 11 Home Update 2
Version 11.0.2343

Press to reboot.
The system is a Dell XPS 15 with a 8 core processor, 8 GB of RAM, 1 TB drive (911 GB available and 683 GB free). The drive is one large partition. The system is running Windows 7 Ultimate x64. The goal is to:
1) Resize C to 300 GB
2) Create a new partition / NTFS drive (F:).
3) Move data from C to F
4) Resize C again to a smaller size (e.g. 150 to 175 GB) and resize the other partition up in size.
I'm wanting to take partition backups and the smaller the C drive partition the quicker the backup (less free space to backup).
NOTE: I can not reproduce the error on my other Windows 7 Ultimate x64 system. It is a Dell Precision 390 Workstation with a Quad processor, 8 GB of RAM, 3 physical drives (320 GB SATA II, 500 GB SATA II, and 2 TB USB). I can resize with a reboot just fine.

"Free space" isn't usually backed up (just "used" space), so a larger partition with the same amount of data on it will take the same amount of time.
How small will Windows Disk Management allow you to shrink the C: partition?
It's possible there is something specific to that Dell that's causing the problem. Have you thought about backing up the partition with TI and then restoring it smaller?
Otherwise, you may need to submit a support request to Acronis.

Thank you for the reply and wanting to help. I appreciate it.
In this case, I'm not the owner of the machine. It is a friend's machine and I was trying to show off DD 11 and (hopefully) get him to buy his own copy.
As for "free space" and backups, it depends upon the backup application. My friend's backup does a sector by sector backup and hence also gets the free space. As he puts it, while they say it is free there is still data out there I might want to recover and use later. (Personally, I use ERASER to insure old data isn't running around. Unfortunately, programs like ERASER don't get everything (e.g. MOVE (explorer or command line), ERASE/DELETE (command line), etc). As I say, to each his/her own.
Microsoft's Disk Management would only let me resize to around 450 GB (which is about 1/2 of the full drive). It is much to big for a small boot partition, IMHO.
I'm not familiar with "TI," (e.g what it is, etc) and making a partition smaller. (The only TI I'm familiar with is Texas Instruments, as I bought several of their calculators when in college and they were my first job out of college.)
As for the support request, ah, it's not my machine and my purpose was to sell my friend on getting his own copy of DD. So, paying for a support ticket for another guy's laptop, to help Acronis sell a copy ... well, I'm not made of money.
Finally: Something interesting I found out. My friend is using the Seagate Black Armor backup application (he has a Black Armor NAS 110 3TB drive). As we understand it, Seagate commissioned -- you got it -- Acronis to write the application. I'm mentioning this because the Seagate application has trouble with the drive, too!! It is unable to backup the RECOVERY partition or BIOS/diagnostic partition. It will backup the C partition, but won't touch anything else (including the MBR, etc).
Just a thought but maybe there is something new in the Dell XPS 15 -- L502X -- for which Acronis didn't program. Just a thought......
Seagate says they're going to look into the issue, but whether they contact Acronis or not and whether this helps out DD, I don't know.
Again thanks for your reply and help.
Bert.

Having the same problem. Tried a DD 11 reinstall; resize from safe mode. Nothing works. What is the solution to this error?
