Why can I not merge 2 partitions into 1 ?

Thread needs solution

I have a 100GB partition with Windows 7 and a 29GB and 20 GB partition I want to simply merge one into the other but the only option I have is to merge one of them into the larger 100GB one, the smaller partition is greyed out so why is this I wonder and how to do I resolve this please anyone ?

Are the partitions you want to merge located next to each other?

Can you post a screenshot of what DD shows for the drive?

Note that I strongly recommend against using the Merge feature since it can corrupt all involved partitions if anything goes wrong. Make sure to have a good backup image of the drive first.

I don't mind about the 2 smaller partitions, just the larger one, ss attached

I want to merge D and F together or just delete them both to form one larger 2nd partition but unable to do so as I say

I haven't tried that exact scenario, but I suspect it's because F: is Logical and C: & D: are Primary. If you don't care about F: & D: I would just delete them and then resize C: to use the space. Do each step separately and apply it before going to the next one.

Even though not using Merge it's still recommended to have a backup before making changes -- just in case.
