Suggestion to Acronis management - opensource Disk Monitor!

Thread needs solution

Hey,
Sometimes the best ideas come at night; it's 1am here and I'm just thinking about this:

Your product is the only one in the s.m.a.r.t. technology which corelates smart data with windows event log. You also demonstrate good understanding of smart technology (you present to the user human understandable conclusions for various degraded smart attributes)
You are also using some form of opensource software to build it (libqt, openssl)

Since your product is already free, it's just a small step to make it open source! Sourceforge.net is a good example to host it onto. Relying on smartmontools or getting its codebase could also boost productivity a lot since it detects a broad range of mass storage controllers - recently they added intel's raid ichXr!

This way you'll get popularity increase and at the same time ease the work of the disk monitor team.

If you're relying on some proprietary Microsoft source headers I'm sure there are ways to get rid of it (see the smartmontools win32 code for smart checks and I know I've seen somewhere a gpl code to make windows api calls to read event log)

Oh, and at the same time you'll solve the nasty adm.exe polling bug (http://forum.acronis.com/forum/20994 ; http://forum.acronis.com/forum/21754)

Just my 2 nightly cents.

Cheers
