How to add Snap Deploy Standalone Utility to PE image

Thread needs solution

This component is available using the bootable media builder (linux) but not using the PE builder (windows).

I need the PE builder because the linux boot doesn't recognize my network adapter.  The PE builder allows me to add network drivers where the linux boot builder does not.  Is there a way to add the Standalone Utility to the PE image?

Hello,

There is no such option to add Standalone Utility to PE image. This is by design. But you can use Command-line utility instead. Supported commands are listed here.

Best regards.

Will D - I have the same issue as you, but I've found that using a generic USB 3.0 to gigabit ethernet adapter resolves the issue at a relatively low cost point ($10-$20 depending on the type of adapter you get).  Hopefully, Linux driver support will get better though in the future as it may be a network adapter this time, but perhaps a hard drive or storage array controller the next time that won't have such an easy work-a-round.

I still don't understand why the stand-a-lone utility is excluded "by design" either - doesn't make a lot of design sense to the end users, especially since ATIH and Acronis Workstation have full Linux boot and WinPE boot capabilities.  Why exclude this one feature from Snap Deploy WinPE when it is meant to be a stand-a-lone feature in the first place, especially if the Linux bootable media driver support is not there.

I'll bring this up in the MVP forums to see if it's somethign that can be considered in future Snap Deploy versions or see if we can at least figure out why it's been excluded by design.

Thanks Bobbo.  Great idea.  I'll give it a try.

This "by design" has to be one of the most disappointing things I have ever heard.  I have a machine that the Linux boot is unable to boot to properly.. (Yoga 11e Celeron N3450) and it was suggested to try the WinPE.  After a few attempts at creating the media I finally get it to boot only to find the Deploy option is not here but I have to create a script instead?!  This is not a good business model if you are worried about customer retention.. *Sigh*
