Using a Virtual Machine as your Base Image

Thread needs solution

I am wondering if it is at all possible to build your image via a virtual machine? Main reason is to be able to have an always up-to-date version of an image ready to go. So Windows updates, 3rd party patches, etc are up-to-date when an image is needed to be made. Anyone ever gone this route?

 Hello Breakingcustom,

Thank you for your post. I am glad to help you.

Creating a master image is not limited only to physical environments. You can take the image of a virtual machine offline or online and use it as a master image. When deploying to a physical machine you should though remember to apply Acronis Universal Restore as you change the virtual hardware to a dissimilar physical one. Check this online topic for more information: Using Acronis Universal Deploy.

Let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

I'm working on this same scenario.

Oracle VirtualBox VM management application and Snap Deploy 4 my deployment solution. It says that it supports VHDs but I'm not having much luck in actual migration, typically they will BSOD every time I try to launch. I'm still early in testing though. Testing on a Dell PWS 390 and a PWS 380 with a Windows XP VHD.
I just had the XP 32X VHD successully migrate to the PWS 380 but it failing before because it was set to RAID / ACHI in the BIOS and needed to be changed over to RAID / ATA for whatever reason. I'm going to assume that it is because of the configuration of the VM currently.
I will be testing that too.

Turns out, XP doesn't support ACHI. Just a update to this thread.
