Acronis 2016 Backup Fails

Thread needs solution

I'm running Acronis 2016 on a Windows 8.1 Lenovo laptop.

The backup fails ... I see an error note, saying that a certain file cannot be backed up, but the note disappears and I cannot find it.

I would appreciate some hel;p ASAP. Thank you.

Could that be that file?

'\\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy7\Program Files (x86)\Manulife Financial\Product\mlin\Mlincalc.dll

Are you e using a file backup to backup your system?

I think that is the file.

I don't know what you mean by a File Backup to backup my system.

I have the backup done by the scheduler in Acronis.

What type of backup do you use? non-stop backup, right?

It looks like your Manufile Financial program contains some DLL that (a) are in use during backup (b) cannot be put in the shadow copy. So either:

- terminate the financial program before backup (this might solve the issue), at least for the first NSB full backup,

- or, exclude this directory from the NSB backup (I would personally not put any Windows or programs directories in that backup anyway), and use a disk and partition backup for the system and program folders.

That program shouldn't be running in the background. How do I stop it from starting with windows?

How do I add an exclusion to the backup?

C:\Program Files (x86)\Manulife Financial

Accoring to int user manual, when you go to exclusions, and click on the + you should see: File extension, mask or path.

I only see File extension or mask.

You would enter C:\Program Files (x86)\Manufile Financial\ (see examples in the default list)

According to user manual, when you go to exclusions, and click on the + you should see: File extension, mask or path.

I only see File extension or mask.

Hmm.... When you create a new backup or open the options of an existing backup, this is what I see after clicking on the "+" sign to add an exclusion:

- for any backup, except non stop backup: "file extension, mask or path"

- for a non stop backup, "path"

In any case, I can click on the three dots on the right and select what I need.

What happens when you click on the three dots?

You can find out which program(s) have a particular file open using Process Explorer: https://technet.microsoft.com/da-dk/sysinternals/processexplorer and its "Find" menu. Enter the path of a file or directory, and it should tell you which process has a file open. I use to figure out why my USB-sticks sometimes will not unmount.

Once you know the program, it should be easy to stop it using Task Manager.

I did a chat with Acronis support this morning and resolved the issue by creating a new backup.

Acronis support sucks. One month of support is garbage.

I will actively seek a different vendor as I have no use for Acronis.
