Adding an existing Backup to the List

Thread needs solution

In Windows 10 I renamed several of my Acronis Backup Folders and afterwards,i In Acronis Program/Backup Section, all of the previous entries disappeared from the List.  My backups still exist, but when I attempt to add them to the List in Acronis, I am not successful.

PP 62-63 of the User's Manual states that "Every time you start Acronis True Image 2016, it scans your computer for such backups and adds tham to the backup list automatically."  This is not happening.

I also followed the instructions to add backips to the List manually.  I clicked the arrow icon at the bottom of the backup list, selected "add existing backup" and then selected a backup version (.tib file) and then clicked "add".  The backup was not added to the list.  Any help appreciated

Mark, in my understanding and experience, the User Manual is incorrect when it states that it scans for such backups and adds them to the backup list automatically.  There has been discussion on this behaviour previously in the forum and requests have been made to the Acronis developers to provide a switch, as in earlier versions, where the user can control whether to scan for existing backups at startup or not.

The problem for manually adding an existing backup that you have where nothing is added is not normal.  I have not had any issues myself with doing this and even just mounting a TIB image (disks or partitions) in Windows Explorer results in that backup being added to my backup list.

Did you perform a clean install of ATIH 2016 or was it an upgrade from an earlier version?

If this was an upgrade install then it would be worth doing a clean install by running the Acronis Cleanup tool (link in my signature below) then reinstalling the 2016 version.  Please note that if you do this, you will lose all your current backup tasks and will need to recreate or reconfigure these based on your existing backup image files.

The adding of backup jobs is hit or miss for me too.  I actually hate that it adds them by default, and usually when I start fresh, I get hundreds of them showing up that I have to manually cleanup.  Every now and then, when i move a backup elsehwere for archiving and leave the dive plugged in, ACronis will find them and re-add them back (which, again, I hate, because I don't want them there).

So, I'd say the behavior is inconsistent to say the least and do hope that future upgrades/releases will specifically bring back the ability to scan locations automatically, but also turn the feature off completely. It's been brought up in the MVP forum and passed on to the developers.  I also submit feedback through the application and would suggest that you do the same so that it coninutes to get reported so that it is made a priority (assuming that others are submitting feedback too).

Steve & Bobbo - I followed your advice and it fixed the problem - Thank You!

Mark, that is great to hear. Thanks for your feedback.
